The Healthy Active Living Program is an innovative bilingual program aimed at helping New Brunswick older adults make more informed choices about their health and well being through health education, personal empowerment and prevention.
Older adults gain information and discuss areas of concern through eight central themes including: Understanding Aging, Healty Aging, Wise Use of Medication, Stress Reduction, Physical Activity, Healthy Eating, Falls Prevention, Personal Safety & Housing Considerations, Understanding Hearing Loss, Seniors and Fraud and Senior Abuse & Neglect. All sessions are free of charge.
The program has been operating since 1993. Each month approximately 1000 seniors are exposed to the program. It is peer led with currently 12 regional co-ordinators, and approximately 60 volunteers and 140 resource persons deliver session. To date over 7577 workshops have been delivered in over 4,125 communities across New Brunswick to more than 183, 000 seniors.
At this time the primary funding partners are : the Dept. of Wellness, Culture & Sport and the Dept. Social Development of the N.B. Governement.
